As part of an effort to reduce cable clutter and use Power over Ethernet (PoE 802.11AF) to power various projects around the house, I installed a 8 port PoE switch, and added a PoE adapter to power the server that’s serving this webpage.
I used one of these active 48V 802.11AF adapters plugged into the Orange Pi Zero.
There was a small snag, the switch had to be programmed with the correct Duplex setting, as autonegotiation failed. It has since run flawlessly for a year.
Any future (domotics/IoT) projects that make use of a wired ethernet connection will be powered similarly. The Portable Radio will also have a PoE enabled network port and charge the battery through PoE.
